A citizen alert has gone out to the security agencies claiming that a village called Dada, about two kilometres away from Zurmi town in Zamfara State, is currently under attack. The citizen posted this shortly before midnight on October 29th, 2018 and is asking: “when will the government come to our rescue?”
Intervention is responding to the alert and if this helps in any way, then it would be an achievement in media and conflict management.
The diffuse nature of violence nowadays and the scanty nature of the alert is such that there is no knowing what is up and what is down but Zamfara has had its own share of organised violence. It is among the contemporary list of problem states, security wise. These are Southern Kaduna, Benue, Plateau, Taraba and Borno states.
The contention over who is behind the violence, why the Nigerian State and its monopoly of legitimate use of violence has been largely caught flat footed in nipping these flash points in the bud and why there is a general state of siege and fear in the country is what has torn Nigeria into those who bash the Muhammadu Buhari regime for incompetence and those who applaud the regime.
