The Modibbo Adama University of Technology in Yola, Adamawa State of Nigeria has announced a shift in the date of its 23rd Convocation ceremony. Originally scheduled to hold on September 9th, 2017, the ceremony will now hold on a date to be announced later. A statement by Alhaji Ibrahim Ribadu, the Registrar of the institution, regrets inconveniences the shift might cause all stakeholders.
The statement was, however, silent on how the change became necessary. It might not be unconnected with the fact that the university system in Nigeria is currently grounded by a strike action involving the academics to press their case for increased funding of universities by the state. Such strike actions has been a regular feature of the system in Nigeria for quite sometime now. Otherwise, the 36 year old Federal owned Modibbo Adama University of Technology is understood to be among those of such institutions administered with sensitivity to the mandate of knowledge.
