This evening, Chima and I had the privilege of spending quality time with our dear friend, Dipo “Jingo” Fashina and his loving wife, Christy. Watching them together brought back fond memories and filled my heart with joy and reflection.
As I looked at Jingo, now retired and taking his own aging curve like all his contemporaries as gracefully as age permits, I couldn’t help but think about the incredible life he has lived. His dedication to social justice, education, and human rights has left an indelible mark on Nigeria and beyond. Jingo’s legacy is a powerful indication of his unwavering commitment to his values and passions. He is a true, original and his influence will continue to shape generations to come.
As I reflect on Jingo’s life, I am reminded of the importance of living life to the fullest and giving one’s all. Not many of us have the opportunity or courage to do so, but Jingo has been a shining example of what it means to live a life of purpose and conviction.
Christy’s loving care and devotion to Jingo are a beautiful sight to behold. It’s clear that their bond is strong, and their love for each other will always remain palpable.
As we left their place, I felt grateful for the time we spent together and the opportunity to reflect on Jingo’s remarkable life. His legacy will continue to inspire and motivate many, I am sure, for years to come. And as we look forward to our next visit, I can already imagine the warmth and comfort of sharing spiced tea and smooth Jazz together, surrounded by the love and warmth of our forty years plus friendship. If you have encountered this great man called Jingo, give him a shout out there!
