Those who assume that scholars of Peace and Conflict Studies in Nigeria are not conscious that Nigeria has been one of the world’s richest site for the study of violent as well as structural conflicts might have to think again. Nigeria’s Society for Peace Studies and Practice (SPSP) – the umbrella platform for the field – are converging on Bauchi State of Nigeria for her 17th International Annual Conference and General Assembly. If everything goes according to plans, the largest assemblage of peace scholars and practitioners will be in the state for four whole days, from October 16th to 20th, 2023.
According to currently available information on the conference, this year is special as it is also the 20th anniversary of the SPSP itself. And the society is thus inviting peace practitioners, researchers and students globally to the event taking place at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University. The theme is “Peace Studies, Peace Practice in a Changing World Order: Models, Experiences, Interventions and Prospects. The floor is open to any peace practitioner or researcher with a keen interest in peace, conflict, security, and development.
All such scholars will have the opportunity to connect with other like-minded professionals, share his, her or their experiences and insights as well as learn about the latest developments and trends in peace studies and practice. That is besides the chance to engage in stimulating discussions and exchange ideas with leading experts in the field.
The masterminds of SPSP are sure that participation in the conference will have the collateral impact in advancing the cause of peace, conflict resolution, security, and development. And has made available its flier and the link for all those concerned:http://spsp.org.ng/blog/annual-international-conference-gen-ass. Observers of the academic scene in Nigeria are saying that the title of this year’s conference has great potential to raise the profile of the SPSP should the event escape the Nigerian tragedy of events of this type being taken over by social and political players, with little time left for the academic substance.
