There are no conditionalities or roadblocks to be cleared by any Nigerians before he, she or they can join the People’s Redemption Party, (PRP), the party headquarters has clarified. Rather, the party is open to all Nigerians who fulfil the age requirement of 18 prescribed by the Nigerian Constitution.
Not only that, the PRP has also declared indigeneship a secondary consideration to the party. As a party of the people, said Alhaji Abdul Gombe, the National Publicity Secretary, what is paramount is occupational, residential and/or class solidarity, a bold statement to the extent that no other party in Nigeria has ever made it. A statement by Alhaji Gombe is urging all those wishing to join the party to ignore what it calls erroneous statements being peddled by people it said are not in any position of authority to that effect. According to him, the party is open to all who wish to join in what he calls the patriotic task of lifting this nation out of the stultifying morass which it has sunk and providing hope and the platform for the material and social progress which our hapless citizens richly deserve.
Intervention understands that the one page statement is consequent upon the upsurge of renewed public interest in joining the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) and the ensuing confusion which utterances considered ill-informed may have created in the minds of many of such potential members. Hence, the imperative of an official clarification regarding membership of the party.
The party is thus dismissing as disinformation the idea that a prospective member of the platform can only register at his or her “Ward of Origin”. Describing such as “ whatever that means” Alhaji Abdul Gombe says it is not only totally erroneous but also untrue, adding that Article Four, Sub-section (b) of the Party’s Constitution had been clear and unambiguous enough in stating that “A person seeking to become a member the Party shall apply to the branch where he or she resides or works”. The question of “Ward or Branch of origin” is, therefore, unknown to the PRP Constitution, he said. What is important, as far as he is concerned, is where the prospective member is either resident or where the would–be member works.
That is why in addition to the provision for physical membership registration at both residential and workplace loci, the party has also introduced on line registration of members at its official website: www.prp.com.ng, a policy informed by the party’s consciousness of modern day technological advancements, particularly the ubiquity of the social media, said the statement. It clarified further that the only proviso for this form of registration of new members is that it shall be subsequently synchronized at the relevant Branch/Wards level of the party where party membership cards will be issued on the payment of the Fifty Naira membership registration fee.
