The Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD- West Africa) is holding a lecture in memory of Dr. Tajudeen Abdulraheem and Professor Abubakar Momoh Memorial Lecture, two late Africa-minded scholars and democracy activist Nigerians. According to a CDD statemen to that effect, the event will take place June 30th, 2026 in Abuja.
While Dr Tajudeen Abdul-Raheem died in an early morning car crash in Nairobi on May 25th, 2009, Prof Abubakar Momoh, then the DG of The Electoral Institute in Abuja, died on May 29th, 2016.
The statement gave the Theme of the lecture as ‘From Promise to Paralysis: Political Parties and Challenges of Democratic Consolidation in Nigeria’ and it is to be delivered by Prof. Samuel Egwu.
The event is about celebrating the legacies of two distinguished African intellectuals, scholar-activists, and champions of democratic governance, said CDD which also added how the memorial activity will provide an opportunity for critical reflection on the role of political parties in Nigeria’s democratic journey, examining the challenges and prospects for democratic consolidation.
‘Through insightful presentations and discussions, participants will engage with contemporary issues shaping governance, political accountability, and democratic development in Nigeria’, maintains CDD which is looking forward to what it calls a robust exchange of ideas among policymakers, academics, civil society leaders, development practitioners, and other stakeholders.
