Barely a day after the passage of a notable academic in the person of Prof Ayo Dunmoye, another titan is gone. He is Prof Saint Gbileka who died yesterday.
A staff of the University of Abuja where Gbileka has ever worked called to ask if Intervention heard the news. A very senior ex-Government House, Makurdi contact further confirmed the death.
The details of what put a final full stop to Prof Gbileka’s life are yet to stream in but death came to him barely two years to his retirement from academia.
Prof Gbileka is an Ibadan product where he read for a degree in Theatre Arts and also got his PhD in the field. Drama defined his person in spite of his activist and critical orientation.
Aside from his family, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) will be the biggest loser in his death. At a critical time in the life of ASUU, he was almost all they had at the University of Abuja.
Between 2007 and 2015, Prof Gbileka served as the Chief of Staff in the Gabriel Suswam administration. Before then he had been a Personal Assistant to a political appointee too.
