Dr Etito Obediah, the kidnapped Chief Medical Officer of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Makurdi in Benue State of Nigeria is out of harm. Operation ZENDA, a special crime intelligence outfit of the Nigerian Police got him in a rescue operation deep in Zaki Biam forests in Katsina Ala Local Government Area of the State.
Intervention can reveal that Dr Obediah is now safely in Makurdi, the Benue State capital with his family after nine days of what must have been a classic of horror.
Well located sources in Makurdi told Intervention that one kidnapper was gunned down and three arrested, and no ransom was paid. It all means his rescue was the outcome of crime intelligence and a tough operation which lasted till the early hours of today (May 22nd, 2023).
As at Saturday, the kidnappers were insisting on 25 million Naira, down from the initial demand for 30 million. That is what life has come to in much of Nigeria. It was understood but not confirmed that nine others were rescued along with the Medical Director.
The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), the Federal Medical Centre, Makurdi itself, the Mount Saint Gabriel Old Boys Association and several well-wishers have been understood to have piled pressure for Dr Obediah’s rescue.
