Whatever it was ( fate, stupidity ) that put Africans at the bottom of the ladder of scientific enquiry, has turned Africans into Zombies ( I have in mind the definition of zombie by late Fela Anikulapo Kuti in a song: Zombie no go move till you tell am to move, Zombie no go chop till you tell am to chop…..)
Most societies whom we consider as educationally developed had earlier developed civilisations based on letters or literacy. Most of Africa was unlettered till it came into contact with Arabs and Europeans.
Most societies had, at at certain points in their existence believed in superstitions and associated beliefs. Africans, for whatever reason, chose to retain their paganistic beliefs even if they acquired PhDs.
Western education is still a robe, which Africans many atimes find cumbersome, ineffective.
That is why Nigerian Cultists believe that human sacrifice, harvesting of organs, is a sure way to wealth.
In Southern Africa, Albinos face extinction because portions of their bodies are prized by Cultists.
Europeans have every right to gloat, to be filled with hubris, for their indisputable mental superiority over the Black race.
It is for that reason that long after so-called independence, they believe it is their manifest destiny to dictate to governments and ‘intellectuals’ of the Black race.
We harp on leadership. That with right leaders all evil practices can be done away with.
How can that be possible in Nigeria when politicians rely on Cultists and thugs to attain power?
There was a period in Nigeria when the most lucrative employment was with foreign NGOs. They were the ones who had use for our ‘intellectuals’, those who learned how to ape Western academic processes without believing in them.
The Chinese had a civilisation before Western Industrial revolution. When the West was ascending it trounced, humiliated the Chinese utterly. The Chinese did not allow the defeat to develop roots in their hearts. Today the West seems unable to meet the Chinese challenge such that they are openly saying they will wage war against China. It is not because China is occupying any inch of Western territory, but because it is the only way to cripple it.
Today we are informed by the media that South Africa is facing acute power shortage.
South Africa’s industrial complex was set up by White, apartheid rulers. It is likely were they in power they could not have allowed the nation to come to this sorry state.
South African academics ( Whites) are able to compete with their peers globally.
Personal example : I stumbled upon a document called AUC Agenda 2063. It’s end goal is a united Africa politically, economically.
I read it and wanted AUC (African Union Commission ) to see my observations.
May be I was insensitive. I titled my response as: AUC’s Agenda 2063: whose fairy tale?
I said that if AUC can teach Nigeria how to be a united country then it can unite Africa.
Was I acknowledged? That is not in the character of African institutions. I copied NEPAD Secretariat, no response. I copied NIIA, no response from there also. In frustration I posted it on my Facebook page (Abdullah Musa Abdullah ), only three or people were interested enough to press ‘like’, not necessarily reading what I wrote.
Who would be interested in funding a research into the African’s mindset? Certainly not African leaders or the institutions they preside over.
