All those calculating to read Agricultural Sciences are in for a free ride. Dr. David Oyedepo, the Chancellor of the university, is incentivising such prospective students in Crop Science, Animal Science, Agric Extension & Rural Development, Agric Economics, Agribusiness Management, Environmental & Natural Resource Economics, Aquaculture and Fisheries Management, Tourism and Recreation, Horticulture and Landscape Management. These courses would now be run free of charge.
The agenda is understood to fit into encouraging students to pick interest in agriculture as part of an institutional bid to take Nigerians back to agriculture and, by implication, contribute to the idea of Nigeria feeding herself. Established over seven years ago, Landmark University prides itself to be one of the highest scholarship awarding universities among private universities in Nigeria. It is also claiming a space among the 10 most beautiful university campuses in Nigeria.
It is not clear why this mid May pronouncement is just making its way into the news market. It has already been the subject of commendation by senior academics from one or two First Generation universities in Nigeria who were asking other universities to borrow a leaf from the Omu-Aran based Landmark University. Omu-Aran is in Kwara State of Nigeria.
