Journalism is mourning the passing of one of its own, Imam Iman who died yesterday and was buried in Abuja according to Muslim rites of passage. Regarded as one of the most social media active media advisers around, Imam would be missed in all the spaces he traversed.
Iman’s sudden death has been the subject of recollections of encounters with him by fellow journalists across newsrooms yesterday evening, many of whom who did not even hear he was sick. Politicians have joined journalists in condoling with the Sokoto State governor over the death. Alhaji Imam Iman rose to the position of Political Editor of Nigeria’s daily, ThisDay before veering off into the communication of power.
Intervention has been informed of a piece of his mind he wrote when he was leaving with governor from the House of Representatives in Abuja to Government House, Sokoto. That must be in 2015. It reads as follows:
Four years ago, Speaker Aminu Waziri Tambuwal plucked me from my job as Group Politics Editor in ThisDay to be his spokesman and Media Adviser. Today I want to report to you that that line of duty has reached its end. Along with other committed journalists Ojo Adedayo James, Mohammed Isa, Attairu Haruna and Oota Andrew, we advised the Speaker in the best way we can.
Working in govt, especially at this high level, has exposed me to the potentials of our country. With a better organisation, we can go places. At the same time, this sojourn has exposed me to the challenges our people, and Nation, face.
While moving my personal belonging out of my office in National Assembly during the week, one painful sight was the heap of CVs (3,600 in total) of young Nigerians seeking jobs. Even though they are qualified and with better results than mine, I’m sad I couldn’t help many of them get what they wanted.
A new journey beckons. But before then, I beg each every one of you to forgive me if I offended you in anyway. I also ask you to pray for me as I make a decision about my future in the coming days.
Thank you all”
May the Lord receive Imam Iman in His bossom!
