Unknown gun men have shot dead a sawyer in the forests of Aobida in rural Ugbokolo in Benue State. There are no clues so far to the killing this afternoon of the victim by name Audu Adoli whose corpse has been deposited in the mortuary by the police in the area. Ugbokolo and its environs only just started enjoying peace last month since January this year when it came under ‘urban’ banditry and sundry violence.
This case sends signal that securing Edumoga District of which Ugbokolo is the candidate urban centre is still an incomplete task. The question is to where might the District turn: to itself, to the police, to community leaders, to politicians, to religious leaders, to the youths. Or to the military, (perhaps Operation Ugbokolo Smile 4 or something like that? Ugbokolo is a case study of the insecurity crisis in contemporary Nigeria: the question of where to start in terms of attacking it.
