This story has a cover picture which features Mallam Samir Salihu-Lukman and Mallama Aisha Beida obviously listening with rapt attention to inferences on marital praxis from Prof Jibrin Ibrahim. It was at the wedding of Samir and Aisha Friday, June 12th, 2026 in Kano.

Faces in the women wing of the event!
The faces in the composite pictures from the event are those of friends of the father of the groom (decked in a yellow/red dress) – Mallam Salihu Lukman, an activist as well as a chieftain of the ADC while the faces in the picture of women are those in the circle of the mother of the groom – Mallama Amina Salihu in a dress replicating Mallam Lukman.
The pictures will make different sense to different image readers but it will also strike many that the generational transition is actively on and unstoppably so. The children of yesterday are announcing their becoming through one of the most important rituals in that respect – marriage.

Some faces at the men’s wing of the event
As Dr. Kole Shettima who chaired the wedding remarked, Samir, the groom is, like all his siblings, named after a symbolic figure, his being the famous progressive Egyptian political economist, Prof Samir Amin. His elder sister and first child of the Lukman and Amina family is named after Faridah, the ABU student killed by police in the May 1986 student crisis at ABU, Zaria while Samir’s older brother, Hani, is named after Chris Hani, the Secretary-General of the South African Communist party killed by apartheid South Africa just before the multi-racial election in in 1994 that brought Nelson Mandela to power as president of the country.
This is wishing the newly married a blissful world as well as thanking the kind sender of these pictures!
