An air accident has been reported from Makurdi, the Benue State capital in central Nigeria. It happened at the Makurdi Air Force Base at precisely 5:55 00hrs Friday, July 14th, 2023.
Both pilots of the Chinese F7 jet are reported by an eye witness to have ejected to safety but with serious injuries. The piloted are Wing Commander Muazu who was in command and Flt Lt Ayinde Aborinde.
Intervention further learnt that the jet crashed in to a rice farm opposite the Base, killing civilians on the ground. Casualties have been taken to the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Base Hospital in the town but the number is still unknown.
There are fears, given that the aircraft broke into two on impact, with debris all over the accident site. But it is possible nobody dies from the crash. Rescue operation has reportedly commenced.
Airforce and military intelligence operatives have secured the crash site, Intervention is further told.
