Cuba, the relatively tiny Latin American Island when compared to bigger actors in that geopolitical space – Brazil, Argentina or the United States – carries the banner of Socialism without apologies to anyone. It is not surprising that her Ambassador to Nigeria, Her Excellency, Companera Clara Pulido, is in this cover picture, decked in a T-shirt produced by Nigerian Socialist front, Amilcar Cabral Ideological School, (ACIS).
According to ACIS’s Comrade Abiodun Aremu who sent the picture to Intervention, it was at today’s May Day celebration in Abuja, Nigeria’s Federal Capital City.
The T-shirt bearing the portrait of Socialist leader, Fidel Castro, boldly proclaims “Ever Onward to Socialism”. In other words, no diplomatic manners hindered the ambassador from donning the T-shirt which is a way of paying homage to Castro, a significant figure in the theory and practice of Socialism.
In doing that, Her Excellency certainly expands the diplomatic space in favour of what Intervention would call ‘Socialist diplomacy’. That is no mean achievement in a realm like diplomacy which is still very stiff in terms of the dress code.
