Unless the security agencies stationed to guarantee peace in and around Kafanchan moves fast, a threat of breakdown of law and order is feared to be in the making in that area of Kaduna State.
Intervention understands that tempers and tension have been high in Kafanchan with the arrival of corpses from Kagoro to Kafanchan yesterday morning, (March 21st, 2022). There are no details as to why some persons were killed in Kagoro beyond the hint that the killing by bandits and gunmen is rapidly assuming a religious interpretation in Kafanchan.
Subsequently, there is a call on the security formations in the area to avert break down of law and order. The security formation in question was listed to include a Standing Security Committee in Jema’a; the Mobile Police Squadron 62 established specifically to protect Kafanchan and environs in 2018 with a barrack in Zunuruk and the Air Force and special forces deployed to Kafanchan.
The Security Committee in particular is expected to have intelligence before and after the killings and arson of Sunday, March 20th, 2022. “If they are doing their work, they must have received intelligence about these pending attacks for at least 48 hours”, a voice told Intervention. The recurrent crisis do not give credit to the performance of the Squadron, it is also argued.
But neither are the traditional and political leaders, most prominent among them being the Emir of Jama’a, HRH Aegworok, HRH Agwam Fantswam, HRH Tum Nikyop, Senator Ibrahim La’ah, Sarkin Noma, Ali Kalat and SOKAPU, (Southern Kaduna People’s Union) spared. These actors, it is argued, must step get to the root of the killings. The speaker did not indicate how traditional rulers and individual politicians can get at the roots of the spiral of violence that has rocked much of Southern Kaduna in various forms since 1981. It is simply believed that “they ought to have the wisdom, goodwill and authority to fashion a long lasting truce and peace”.
There is perhaps an overarching push for that assumption which is that peace is, indeed, long overdue in Kafanchan.
