It must be an extraordinary Ash Wednesday which catches in one place two senior fishers of men (and women) and a future but political fisher of men. And so, even though the event wasn’t quite a media one, the picture had to be defined as a private – public picture worth splashing because it communicates a message in itself to a large percentage of our readers.
There is a message in being caught in the midst of two notable prelates at the start of the Christian season of Lent defined by fasting for 40 days. Nigeria itself being a hub of all manner of temptations makes additional spiritual sheltering necessary.

On the left is Bishop Mathew Hassan Kukah, the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese in Northwestern Nigeria. The one who has no cassock is Dr. Chris Kwaja, a Peace and Conflict Studies researcher and civil society activist.
So, what next for Dr. Kwaja after receiving all these spiritual sheltering?
