Being held up as a hero in April 2006 by Senator George Akume who was governor of Benue State then
His name is Chia Diko Detimbir and yesterday was his Passing out Parade, convocation, piping & Presidential Commissioning from the Nigerian Defence Academy to the rank of 2nd Lieutenant into the Nigerian Army.
Officer Cadet Chia Diko Detimbir is that 14 year old boy who discovered the Nigerian Air Force Dornier 228 aircraft which crashed on the Ngokugh Hills, Mbakunu Shangev -ya Local Government Area of Benue State some 12 years ago.
On Sunday, September 17th, 2006, a Nigerian Air Force plane Dornier 228 conveying senior military personnel to Obudu in Cross Rivers State for a conference crashed at Ngokugh Hills, Mbakunu Shangev-ya in Kwande LGA of Benue state killing 13 of the officers. Five of them were, however, rescued courtesy of a telephone call from the crash site by Chia Diko Detimbir who led a rescue operation that saved the survivors.
Yesterday, Detimbir became an officer following his commissioning into the Nigerian Army, attracting a host of friends and well wishers in celebration of young man whose presence of mind saved lives. The army has prepared him academically – BSc (Hons) Military Economics – and otherwise to assume his place among other brave warriors in the service of fatherland!
