As stressed as the popular space and its culture is from the impacts of insecurity and an excessively weak state, it has not lost its capacity for creativity in bringing humour to tension. One such area of tension is the many battles of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, the National Chairman of the ruling party in Nigeria – All Progressives Congress, (APC).
Apart from obviously gasping for breath in that office, what with all the demonstrations against him, he is also on fire in his home state of Edo where he was governor for eight years. A fight the President and Commander-in-Chief and leader of the party cannot separate must, indeed, be a big fight. It is easy to infer that if they cannot settle themselves, then how can they settle the entire Nigeria?
Added to all these is the question of how much grounds the National Chairman of the ruling party still has in his former key constituency – the trade union movement from where he made a name at all to launch himself into politics.
Hitherto, it was to depict the Chairman in the robes of a judge following his argument that no governor was going to be sworn-n in Bayelsa State in the aftermath of the dismissal of David Lyon of the APC. Oshiomhole argued that this was going to be so because the PDP candidate in that election did not win majority of lawful votes. Taking a graphic approach to replying him, creative minds went to work to reply him, using graphics. The outcome was Oshiomhole wearing a cultic looking wig in black formation. Uhm!
Now, the creativity game has shifted to an imaginative invocation of Biblical account to the current situation as in the cover picture. It is perhaps this creativity that keeps the nation going in the absence of any planned national life, a process that should be led by national leadership and state power, all of which appears to have gone on AWOL, leaving everyone high and dry!
