Every judgment stands on a comparative pedestal. Comparison makes meaning possible. This seems to be the point of departure of the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA) in its think tanking on xenophobic attacks in South Africa.
The intervention takes the form of a Roundtable scheduled for August 18th, 2026, according to the event announcement from the state-owned Nigerian think tank.
Scheduled to drive the conversation are three, interesting resource persons. There is Prof Adele Jinadu, a Nigerian Political Science elder who has accumulated considerable scholarly and activist insights on Africa. There is also Prof Eghosa Osaghae, a leading Nigerian political scientist, biased to comparative politics and who has, additionally, taught in a South African university previously. And then there is Mr. Bobby J. Moroe, He is the Consul-General of the South African Consulate in Lagos.
From this team of resource persons is NIIA’s audience expecting the frame(s) of intelligibility which may deliver Africa from Afrophobia, the more popular name for, arguably, the most paradoxical phenomenon confronting the continent.
