The festival of Pan-African solidarity triggered by Prof Okello Oculi’s death July 26th, 2025 raged on Thursday July 31st, 2025 with another condolence visit to the family.
This time, it was a delegation from Bingham University, Karu where Prof Oculi conducted seminars, delivered lectures and was setting up an AU Mock-Summit cell.
A delegation from the university’s Department of Political Science found their way to the family to express their gratitude for his unpaid services. It included Prof Istifanus Sonsare Zabadi, Prof Michael Akpan (former Dean of Social Sciences), Dr Robert Sabo (HoD), Dr Fidelis Olugbamiye, Dr John Olusola Magbadelo, Dr Tobi Johnson and Mrs Sarah Ajiya.
The HOD extolled the works of the Prof Okello whom he credited with impactful grooming of generations of Nigerian students over the years in the spirit of pan-Africanism. The Department of Political Science at Bingham University benefitted from his fountain of knowledge whenever he honoured the invitations extended to him, said Dr. Sabo who then handed a written tribute from the Department to Debra Ogazuma, Prof Okello’s widow.
The session also went into a prayer session for the repose of the soul of the departed and the comfort of his family.
Intervention recalls that earlier on March 9th, 2025, Prof Oculi, Prof Adele Jinadu, Prof Jibrin Ibrahim, Prof Okey Ibeanu, Barrister Festus Okoye, Prof Bayo Olukoshi, Prof Istifanus Zabadi and Prof Gani Yoroms were the stars at an international conference on Instability and Development Crisis in Africa. It was a fascinating invocation of the days gone by in standpoint academe.
