As slippery as the concept of power in international relations, it remains a concept of huge attraction. Law lecturer, Dr. Inebu Agbo-Ejeh, seems persuaded on this in writing Asymmetric Power Relations and International Trade Law: Legal Analysis of Economic Partnership Agreements, the book that was the subject of a book presentation event recently in Abuja. The event, needless to say, drew in diverse personalities.

The author of the new book
They stretch from Chief Mike Okibe, chieftain of the Nigerian Shippers Council and Akanaba K’Idoma as well as a co-sponsor of the event; Barrister Rotimi Amaechi, former Governor of Rivers State who chaired the book launch and commended the author for her scholarly contributions to international trade law; Dr Hilary Obioma Ibegbulem, the second of the chief launchers, Comrade Joe Ajaero, President of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), legal experts, policymakers, public servants, industry leaders, sundry researchers and, very symbolically, staff and students from Baze University Abuja, along with alumni from the University of Jos, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, amongst others.
Dr. Sam Amadi who served as book reviewer explored the intricate dynamics of power imbalances in international trade and their legal implications. He critically analysed economic partnership agreements, offering fresh perspectives on global trade relations. The reviewer was complemented by the author who emphasised the importance of addressing power asymmetries in international trade, highlighting the potential of her book to influence policy and academic discourse. She also acknowledged the unwavering support of her family, colleagues and students whose encouragement played a pivotal role in the successful completion of the book.
Dr. Inebu Agbo-Ejeh expressed her heartfelt gratitude to all attendees, acknowledging her mentors from the University of Warwick in the United Kingdom, the University of Cape Town in South Africa and other scholars who have supported her academic journey.
The book from someone who has taught in various universities, is expected to serve as a vital resource for policymakers, legal practitioners, and academics in its comprehensive analysis of the legal frameworks governing global trade relations. Copies of the book were available for purchase, with proceeds which are to be used to support further academic research in the field.
