Death Snatches Sandra Iwambe

Death has claimed a victim that makes going along with John Donne to tell death not to be proud. The succumbing to death of Veritas University, Abuja staff, Sandra Iwambe, is a distinctive victory for death.

Intervention has understood that Iwambe died 2.45 am on April 18^th, 2023 after a night in the hospital. She had complained of headache on her return from a traditional wedding of her friend’s daughter in Benue State, coming back weak obviously from the wear and tear of road journeys. That was Sunday, April 16th. And she was taken to the hospital by 11. 30 pm that night by her junior sister, Doosuur Iwambe. Her main complaint, according to what Intervention learnt from Doosur, was severe headache.  A staff of the Department of Mass Communications at Veritas University who called her reported her Monday night reported her as saying the headache was getting more and more severe. The following day, she was pronounced dead.

At the time of her demise, she was also a PhD student in the Department of Mass Communications at Nasarawa State University, Keffi. She read Mass Communications from Benue State University, Makurdi in Benue State of Nigeria. Her husband died a few years ago and Sandra took care of her two children from the marriage. None of the children is up to 10 years at the moment.

No one who interacted with her would disagree that she was beautiful in body and soul, full of humanity and given to taking great care to ask and assist whoever suffered a privation in the university such as bereavement, accident or sickness. No colleagues of her had observed her with being frequently ill and she was quite upbeat about her academic pursuits. The mystery of her sudden death gets more puzzling.

As at the time of reporting, a clear burial arrangement had not emerged but it was understood it would be done almost immediately. And when it is done, all those who knew her would have lost a very natural and genuine woman. No heavy make – up, no exhibitionism and very ready to come up with informed suggestions and functional information. That was her, Intervention was told.
