Nobody can predict what would come out of this major event from the UNN. It is probably best to wait to consume it. For, each of the variables involved – Achebe, the Novel and Postcoloniality – can take decades to exhaust, not to talk of when they are all occurring in a title.
The academic delivering the Valediction is as established as they come and even as degraded as the universities are in Nigeria, UNN is among the first generation of Nigerian universities. As they say, systems die hard.
So, all the elements favour a wait and see attitude to a coming confrontation with meaning at the end of a career spanning decades of multiple engagement with the literary by Prof A. N. Akwanya.
