Nigeria’s insecurity challenges appear to be expanding beyond the domestic front. An enraged passport applicant engaged the Nigerian High Commission in London earlier today wrecking serious damage on several diplomatic cars belonging to the High Commission. The unnamed attacker who was said to be enraged by delay in issuance or renewal of his passport caused damage estimated to be in thousands of dollars..
The details are still sketchy about who the attacker is. No officials have responded to enquires but the degree of damage inflicted on at least five diplomatic cars is being estimated to be much.
In the video below, the ubiquitous London Metropolitan Police car can be seen parked but it is still not clear if the attacker escaped or was immediately grabbed. It is most unlikely he escaped.
Voices of horror at the rage can be heard from the spectators and curious sightseeing elements that can be seen around the place.
The reactions are not coming yet, particularly that of Nigerians in and around the UK who patronise the Nigerian High Commission there. The history is that of a tense relationship between passport seekers and the High Commission without both sides being able to understand each other. Previously, the claim is that of having to wait for 6 months after paying upwards of 250 British pounds. The narratives, however, do not contain plausible reasons why such delays might occur.
The question is still whether perceived horrifying experiences would justify a rage!
