The foreign policy establishment in Nigeria has lost one of her most experienced and most professional non-career cadres. She is Mrs Agnes Kingsley-Okolie who died in Lagos two days ago after a brief illness.
Although she was not a career officer, she filled the Nigerian Foreign Affairs Ministry far beyond her official capacity while serving as Secretary to several ministers of Foreign Affairs. Among the Foreign Affairs Ministers were Ambassador Ignatius Olisemeka and Alhaji Sule Lamido. It is interesting that her death is being announced by an Ambassador in a forum that serves them.
Among others, the late Mrs Okolie served in Brasilia in the 1980s, New Delhi in 1990s and Germany in the year 2003 – 2007. Mrs Okolie retired from service over decade ago after which she worked with COPAZ, a private sector equivalent of ECOWAS covering Nigeria, Ghana, Benin and Togo.
