A number of actions are taking place simultaneously to uncover the killer of Simon Akpakwu, a professor of Education killed in the university Thursday night to Friday morning. The medical dimension of the tracing process, it is understood, delayed the taking of the body to the mortuary till late evening yesterday. Intervention has been told it was to allow specimen for some preliminary medical tests to be taken. Prof Simon Akpakwu who moved from Benue State University, Makurdi in Benue State to the Federal University, Kashere in Gombe State about five months ago met his death in the hands of someone who most likely strangled him death late Thursday night or early morning of Friday, (yesterday).
One account claimed his killer st him up on a chair after killing him, leaving him in a position as if he was watching television, the position he was reportedly seen when the first set of persons who discovered his death met him. This account has neither been confirmed nor refuted as Intervention has still not been able to reach any of those who could speak for the university, especially after the initial wrong information that he was in Gombe State University.
His handset, some money were additionally understood to have been taken away, presumably by the killer who remains unknown. All that Intervention has picked up is that he sacked his driver a day or even the morning of Thursday and attempts to get through to the said driver have failed on all counts since then. Although some people are making a case of the owl’s complicity in the death of the child the morning after the owl cried, nothing yet implicates the driver until more concrete evidence can be found. Investigators working on the case are, therefore, understood to be throwing their nets far and wide.
Colleagues are still trooping to the house where the act took place. Many people are still lost wondering what might have angered whoever killed him to go to that extreme.
