Ace broadcaster, Regina Fali, was one of the voices without which news was not news on the network of Radio Benue, Makurdi. That was two decades ago before she, typically, played the nomadic card of media professionals by migrating, first, to Radio Nigeria, Abuja and eventually to the United States.
Given that background, there was nothing surprising when media professionals, elders as well as diverse kith and kin elements trooped to the wedding ceremony of her son, Architect Caleb Fali, to his beau, Godwina Ali, at the Saint Gabriel Chaplaincy in Durumi, Abuja December 21st, 2024.
It is one marriage Nigeria is likely to hear about someday, what with the parents of the newly wedded lady shared between Benue and Kaduna states and the bride groom shared between Borno and Benue states. That makes this a national unity marriage.
Away from the national import of the marriage is the rhyming of the surnames. Husband’s surname is Fali while the wife’s is Ali. Some artists might have counselled the newest family in town.
Intervention could not wait to watch the Idoma component of the audience dance their hearts out to Israel Okere’s number – Gwumolo Ló Owoicho – which has become a global signature tune for the Idoma nation but it got a few pictures that are indicative of the glamour on show.
The times may be hard but marriage remains that event across Nigeria done to the hilt. The turn-out, the enthusiasm and the dancing let go are always fascinating. This one was nothing less, even from the Church!
