Nigeria’s Prof Emmanuel Remi Aiyede is joining the University of Pretoria in South Africa as an Extraordinary professor. The University said in a statement that it is thrilled to have Prof. Aiyede join the School of Public Management and Administration (SPMA) in that position.
An Extraordinary Professor is an extra academic leadership facility input. It doesn’t mean Prof Aiyede has succumbed to the ‘japa’ syndrome ravaging Nigeria.
Prof. Aiyede is currently a professor of Political Institutions, Governance and Public Policy at the University of Ibadan from where he obtained his PhD and where he has served as Head of the Department of Political Science from 2020 to 2022 as well as sub-Dean for undergraduates from 2012 to 2014. Additionally, he led the research and policy unit for the Partnership for African Social and Governance Research (PASGR) in Nairobi.
Prof Aiyede’s research straddles a broad range of political science and public policy areas, from public sector reforms to political economy, electoral processes, anti-corruption measures and accountability structures.
With Prof. Aiyede’s appointment as an Extraordinary Professor, the University of Pretoria’s SPMA is already looking ahead regarding future opportunities for collaboration and growth. The University of Pretoria came into being in 1908.
