The war cry in Nigeria is, lets kill corruption before corruption kills the country. That is great but how best might killing corruption be accomplished? Well, South Africa and The Philippines might have something to teach the anti-corruption squad in Nigeria.
In the first video below, South Africa’s Assets Forfeiture Unit can be seen carting away luxury cars allegedly belong to the Gupta family, fingered to be the backbone of organised corruption captured in the vocabulary ‘State Capture’ under immediate past president, Jacob Zuma.
Far away from South Africa is another manner of dealing with corruption and the corrupt in The Philippines where the president presides over the cracking of cars belonging to suspected practitioners of corruption.
From each of these two nations, we have not heard that anti-corruption wars have become embroiled in allegations and counter-allegations between incumbents and critics as it has become in Nigeria. In Nigeria, the president is said to look the other when certain people are involved. He is charged with targeting of a particular party. The president and his party, the APC, charge back by saying that corruption is fighting back.
In the two examples above, it seems you are either corrupt and you get dealt with or you are not corrupt and you have nothing to fear.
