The North Atlantic Treaty Organisation, (NATO) is the subject of a public lecture at Bayero University, Kano, Nigeria Thursday 22nd of February, 2018. The lecture will be delivered by Prof. Horace Campbell, a professor of International Peace at Syracuse University in the United States but currently at the Institute of African Studies at the University of Ghana. Campbell is the author of, among others, the empirically rich 2013 book Global NATO and the Catastrophic Failure in Libya. It is a smashing critique of NATO dense with the minutest details of the ‘catastrophe’.
Titled “NATO and the Destruction of Libya”, the lecture will take place in Saadu Zungur Auditorium at Mambayya House, Bayero University, Kano’s Centre for Democratic Research and Training in the Department of Political Science. Mambayya House is the name of the residence of the late Mallam Aminu Kano. It was acquired by the Federal Government in the aftermath of the sage but vested in the Dept of Political Science at Bayero University, Kano.
Left in a crisis of mission after engagements in Bosnia, then Afghanistan, then Libya and faced with the much talked about ‘Russian threat’ as well as the persistent attack on it by President Donald Trump, NATO could as well be one of the most interesting topics to listen to at a public lecture in an African university today.
