The Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) is celebrating the appointment of Dr. Mairo Mandara, a Nigerian Gynecologist, as a member of the Advisory Group of the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) by the United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, describing her appointment as well deserved and commendable of Guterres. Dr Mandara, a very vocal activist, was until the appointment the Country Representative of Nigeria at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
According to CISLAC, the appointment reflects Dr. Mandara’s wealth of experience and demonstrates the confidence Nigeria and international community repose in her and what CISLAC calls her remarkable legacy of leadership as the Senior Country Adviser in Nigeria to the David and Lucile Packard Foundation, Nigeria-based Health Systems Adviser for the Earth Institute at New York’s Columbia University and Country Representative of Nigeria at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
The statement signed by CISLAC’s Executive Director, Mallam Auwal Ibrahim Musa aka Rafsanjani, described Dr. Mandara as standing out as a great mentor to young women in Nigeria by providing hope to thousands through dedicated charitable, educational and empowerment programmes for young girls and vulnerable women. CISLAC, therefore, considers the appointment as an endorsement of her competence and commitment to contribution to human and national development which was proven in her decades of priceless service in the private sector
While also recalling and commending Dr. Mandara’s interest and involvement in enhanced mutual interaction between the government, the electorate and development partners on issues affecting the nation’s social sector investment and good governance, CISLAC hopes her new appointment would enhance transparency and accountability in the global humanitarian aid management, especially now that it says that humanitarian aid has manifested crisis of massive corruption and alleged diversion of aid across the globe.
