The raging controversy between the Nigeria Police Force and the Police Service Commission (PSC) over the last batch of recruitment of 10, 000 constables has attracted the attention of the Senate Committee on Police Affairs.
Chairman of the Committee, Senator Abdulhamid Ahmed Mallamadori, said on Thursday that the Committee is inviting the two sides to a meeting as soon as practicable because “the Senate cannot allow a controversy which can affect the reputation of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to run its course”.
Intervention recalls that the current recruitment has been a subject of controversy between the Police authorities and the Police Service Commission for reasons that are not too clear, the current exercise being the fourth of its type since the Muhammadu Buhari regime made an annual recruitment of 10, 000 constables a standing policy.
The Committee Chairman is calling on all sides to halt claims and counter claims in the media because, according to him, there is no misunderstanding that cannot be clarified and resolved by the parties in the interest of the nation. Senator Mallamadori said: “The Committee is inviting the two sides to a meeting as soon as practicable, pointing out how the current security situation in the country does not allow for any controversy that could impair any stakeholders in guaranteeing the safety of all Nigerians.
