Central to representative democracy is elections which, in turn, centralises an election management body. But what has been the name, composition and character or performance of the electoral management body in the history of Nigeria?
This is the question election intellectuals around the Abuja based The Electoral Hub has tried to answer by way of a book, Electoral Management Bodies in Nigeria Since 1958, the public presentation of which has been scheduled for May 31st, 2024.
According to the masterminds behind the book, it “offers a unique opportunity to investigate the complex landscape of Election Management Bodies (EMBs) in Nigeria since 1958, providing a fresh perspective on the inclusivity and performance of successive EMBs”. Those out there looking at EMBs in Nigeria from the prism of gender, age, and regional diversity within each re-emergence of the EMB as well as what is distinct of them have got something to engage with. The study is linked to a wider paradigm championed by The Electoral Hub – ‘Enhancing Electoral Knowledge and Integrity in Nigeria’ – with funding from the Open Society Foundations (OSF).
Princess Hamman-Obels, Director, The Electoral Hub said in the invitation to the occasion that INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu will also be the chairman of the book presentation event taking place at Wetlands Hotel in Wuye, Abuja.
