It is presidential aspirants who are shaking the news in Nigeria, not gubernatorial aspirants yet. Those ones are taking their turn but not the privileged newsmakers now.
However, it seems Plateau State cannot wait because the identity of one of the earliest aspirants is a big story. His will be an Obama type story somehow should he clinch the job in 2023. There is no way of knowing if that will happen in an election featuring well established politicians as well.
Yohanna Maigona who has left no one in doubt that he is in the race is, however, a Dutch-Nigerian but who has spent all his life in Jos, the state capital and speaks the Hausa Language like hell.
His is made more interesting by the fact that the number of such identities is increasing in Nigeria. Maigona he has a soulmate in Tahir Fadalla, the owner of the sprawling Tahir Guest Palace who died a few weeks ago in Kano. The difference between the two is that the late Tahir was apolitical. He was more into business even though he assisted many politicians. It would have been interesting to see how much waves he made if he ventured into politics in the Kano environment. This is particularly that he detested being referred to as a non-indigene of Kano.
