It is still ten full days to the D-Day but the clouds are gathering in Edo State where the children of Chief Godwin Odion Akhaine are leaving no stones unturned to give him what would count a befitting burial. Chief Odion Akhaine who was the Emaudo-Ide of Ekpoma in the state passed on January 2nd, 2022 at the age of 85. In addition to being the chief of his area, he was also a trado-medical practitioner as well as a farmer.
Now, this is a burial that will draw its own crowd, given the spread of Chief Odion Akhaine’s children. There is Odion Akhaine, a Professor of Political Science at the Lagos State University, (LASU) and one of the original ‘trouble makers’ in Nigeria, his spaces of trouble-making spanning academia, media activism and human rights advocacy. Barrister Raymond Odion Akhaine is also there in his own clear domain of law. And then Lucky Odion Akhaine, followed by Pastor Eromonsele Odion Akhaine.
Those are the sons while the two daughters are Mrs. Mercy Enaholo (nee Odion Akhaine) and Mrs. Maureen Simeon-Imoisili (nee Odion Akhaine).
It thus promises to be a burial in which no one will get lost, irrespective of his professional tribe, be s/he an academician, human rights activist, lawyer, pastor, housewife and what have you.
