He was, indeed, a warrior, in instrumentalising journalism to earn a living decently but to also expand the democratic space. He was vibrant in doing that especially in his time as a journalist with the Abuja based Media Trust family.
It is from the What’sApp platform of his fellow travellers in that newspaper comes this picture announcing his death. He died in Abuja three days ago, according to the bits sent to Intervention.
Roland Mutum has been sick. His former colleagues rallied around, collecting whatever help they could mobilise. At a point, the cheering news was that he was up and doing or, at least, out of the hospital. Hence, the surprise in the news of his death.
He will sorely be missed beyond his family and immediate community, given the wide networks he cultivated and had to, as a go-getting journalist.
The lesson, especially for Intervention is: don’t put off to tomorrow what could be done or could have been done yesterday. This platform has lost a curious reader!
