The major wave of publicly admitted Covid-19 infection in Benue State has claimed its first victim, Prof Godwin Achinge. He was the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, (Administration) at the state owned university in Makurdi, the state capital.
Prof Achinge was among the nine or so top management staff of the university whose infection were personally confirmed over the weekend through text messages they circulated. He was reportedly rushed to the University of Jos where he needed the ventilator. He didn’t survive it.
Stung by the infection of the SSG, COS, HOS, the First Lady and a son of the governor all at once, the state government is commencing collection of test samples from tomorrow, July 6th, 2020.
A notice to that effect said it would be happening at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH) under the superintendence of the State Action Committee on COVID-19.
Starting at the COVID-19 Treatment Centre in the hospital by 10am, the exercise is at no cost to all members of the public who do that. It is so that they may know their COVID-19 status.
The statement on this exercise from Bemgba Iortyom, a member of the State Action Committee on COVID-19 stresses how Covid-19 positive status is NOT A DEATH SENTENCE, asking all those seeking further information to call any of two toll free lines viz 09010999919 & 09010999920.
