Authorities of the Ahmadu Bello University, (ABU), Zaria has put it to “a technical issue on fees configuration” the demand on non-Muslim students to pay Muslim Students Society, (MSS) dues as part of postgraduate fees for 2018/19 academic session. It has not only apologized to the affected students, it has also promised to refund all such payments.
A May 28th, 2019 statement by Professor Oluseyi Okubanjo, the Deputy Dean of the School of Postgraduate Studies which was, however, released Friday explains that it was never intentional. The university is imploring the students to disregard what it calls “any fake and inciteful information that is currently circulating on Islamisation of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria”
Reports of Christian students being made to pay association dues to platform of Muslim students has been the source of an uneasy turn in the past few weeks. Whether this statement would close the uneasy calm rests in speculation, given the degree of inter-group suspicion in the country today.
