Engineer Ireti Kingibe who made sensational entry into politics as a senatorial aspirant some decades ago is back in politics. She is set to have another go at being the Senator to represent Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory.
The bigger dimension of the story is that she has pitched her tent with the Labour Party which is already parading Peter Obi, former governor of Anambra State but at the presidential level. Although Kingibe is not a Left politician just as Peter Obi is not, it seems the duo might be able to negotiate terms with the radical establishment to use that platform and contest in the 2023 elections.
Ireti Kingibe is a credential heavy aspirant, being a well-educated woman as an engineering graduate of the well regarded University of Minnesota in the United States. She is even heavier in relation to identity spread, being connected to Kano in the Northwest, the Yoruba nationality and some parts of the Southsouth. This is not to talk of her gender constituency. Candidates of other political parties will, therefore, find in her a formidable opponent. It means the election of the senator to represent the FCT from 2023 will be very entertaining!
