A call for cooperation and commitment has gone out to commanders and troops of the 6 Division Nigerian Army so as to enable the new GOC succeed in his new posting. Major General Johnson Irefin who took over General Officer Commanding (GOC) and Land Component Commander Operation Delta Safe made the call at the change of command between him and his predecessor, Major General Felix Agugo.
The new GOC who expressed gratitude to God for giving him the privilege to serve in 6 Division is also happy with the Chief of Army Staff, (COAS) for what he calls another opportunity to command 6 Division.
The change of Command recently at Port Harcourt Barracks, Rivers State follows a recent Army Headquarters posting which saw Major-Gen Agugo go over to the Nigerian Army Signal Corps as Corps Commander while Gen Irefin left 81 Division Lagos to 6 Division, Portharcourt.
The highlight of the ceremony included the signing of the handing and taking over notes, handing over of the command flag by the outgoing GOC to his successor and inspection of Farewell Quarter Guard.
Speaking earlier in his farewell address, the outgoing GOC applauded the commanders for their loyalty and cooperation during his tenure. He thanked the troops of the Division for their commitment towards maintaining security, law and order in the Division’s Area of Responsibility (AOR), charged them to accord the same support to his successor.
Drawing attention to how critical the Niger Delta area is to the nation’s development, he urged the officers and soldiers of the Division to continue maintaining high level of discipline and professionalism in the discharged of their constitutional role.
Gen Agugo also commended the leadership of the Nigerian Army under Lt Gen Tukur Buratai, crediting him dynamic and formidable style and asking the new GOC to build on the foundation he has laid.
